Who Am I?
Hi, my name is Christine. I am a former professional ballet dancer and a dance teacher who is dedicated to ensuring that my students discover their talents, find inspiration, and flourish in their full potential. My focus is to preserve and cultivate the art of dance — in this case ballet — as a vehicle of expression and communication. I hope to help dancers develop not just a trained physical self, but more importantly, a creative self. I aspire to help dancers to tell a story, to communicate an emotion, and to share something beautiful from inside of them with the outside world. Although my teaching is focused in the classical style/technique, my goal is to help dancers learn to dance from the heart.
Biography
I am a former professional ballet dancer who received early training in Phoenix, San Francisco, and New York City. I have studied intensely under the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) and Vagonova methods.
At the age of 17, I joined the prestigious Basel Ballet of Switzerland, under the direction of Heinz Spoerli, where I danced professionally, traveling and performing worldwide, for nearly a decade.
While abroad, I worked with renowned dance choreographers such as Maurice Bejart, Nacho Duato, William Forsyth, and many others. During this time, I performed in productions such as “Swan Lake,” “Giselle,” “The Nutcracker,” and “Mid-Summer Night’s Dream,” as well as in many Balanchine ballets and other modern and contemporary productions. I have toured internationally, dancing in China, Japan, Israel, New York, and in live-televised productions of “Swan Lake” and “La Fille Mal Garde” in Switzerland and Germany.
Upon returning to the United States, I received my BA in history from Columbia University and have been actively teaching ballet to young students in the NYC area. In addition to teaching, I create ballet and contemporary dances for annual performances.
